Amidst the intense heat, smoke, and destruction, Merlin, the beloved cat of Camden Hall, miraculously found his way to the porch of the only standing home. Despite suffering severe burns, Merlin exhibited extraordinary resilience, earning him the nickname of “little wizard” or “little magician,” truly living up to his namesake.

Camden, a professional snowboarder, received the distressing news while at work at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort that he had lost everything in the Marshall Fire, including his home. Worried about Merlin, Camden recalled the uncertainty of whether he had left the sliding door open for his cat to escape. Fortunately, Merlin, displaying remarkable courage, managed to flee the burning house.

The Soul Dog Rescue group, actively searching for lost and injured animals in the aftermath of the fire, discovered Merlin on the porch of the sole surviving home. Severely burned and almost unrecognizable, the resilient cat was identified through his microchip. Although initially uncertain due to the extent of Merlin’s injuries, Camden’s joy and relief were overwhelming when he confirmed the identity.

Merlin’s journey to recovery involved more than a month of treatment for burns at the Northside Emergency Pet Clinic. Despite the challenges, Merlin’s fighting spirit prevailed. A GoFundMe campaign, initiated by a friend, successfully raised over $26,000 to support Merlin’s medical expenses. The community’s outpouring of love and support touched Camden deeply.
