In an abandoned animal shelter in Alabama, USA, a sweet little dog named Speck had been patiently awaiting a loving human to take him home for a year and a half, providing him with the affection he so desperately needed.

Each time someone passed by his enclosure, the dog would stand up, place his snout between the bars, and offer his small paw in greeting. Everyone paused to give him affectionate hugs and “shake his paw.”

Desiray Miracle-Wilder, the director of Bullock County Humane Society, found it nearly impossible to resist stopping and saying hello to this adorable and good-natured little dog. One day, likely feeling particularly inspired, Desiray decided to capture this unique encounter with her phone.

Peering through the bars of his cage, Speck extends his small paw in an attempt to connect with the shelter director. The video resonated with hundreds of internet users and successfully reached Speck’s future family.
