Officer Angela Laurella responded to a distress call on a dead-end street in Pompano, Florida, reporting two dogs tethered to poles. With no information on the dogs’ origin or how long they had been there, Officer Laurella, aware of the scorching temperatures, wasted no time in assessing the situation.
Upon arrival, she discovered a gray, frail dog barely able to move, tethered to a pole with a short leash. The emaciated and dehydrated canine, named Liam, extended his paw to Officer Laurella, seemingly pleading for help. Amy Roman, president and founder of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida, described the scene as Liam reaching out his paw, indicating, “Please help me get out of here.”
Despite the challenging conditions and Liam’s evident need for special care, Officer Laurella sought assistance from the rescue organization, 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida. Though the rescue was already overwhelmed, Roman willingly accepted Liam into their care.
Currently recovering in Roman’s home after multiple vet appointments, the 17-pound pocket bulldog is steadily regaining strength and enjoying better meals than he had in the past. Liam, receiving constant affection and care, is fed regularly, and volunteers prepare batches of boiled chicken and rice for him.
“He’s always getting so much аffeсtіoп,” Roman added. “He’s fed every hour on the hour, so his body becomes accustomed to it… He’s having a fantastic time right now since we have volunteers preparing batches of Ьoіɩed chicken and rice.”
While Liam faces several vet appointments on his path to recovery, he has become a ray of sunshine since his rescue. Described as loving and grateful, Liam’s gentle nature shines through despite the hardships he has endured.
“He loves everyone, and this dog doesn’t have a mean bone in his body,” Roman said. “That says it all to me, because after everything he’s been through, he’s still so grateful and forgiving.”
“I believe canines like Liam can teach humanity a thing or two,” Roman remarked. “It only restores your faith.”
