Cheech hobbled alone from the streets of Texas, transported to a large shelter, and subsequently sent to the newly developed Waller City Animal Rescue Shelter. Initially, some staff personnel allowed the tiny puppy to be bullied and unintentionally neglected him. However, to everyone’s surprise, little Cheech gave his saviors the greatest smile, leaving them all in awe!
“I went into the kennel to check him out and yelled for the other volunteers to come look,” said Leah Sipe, director of the Waller City Animal Shelter and Rescue Center, who was present at the meeting. “They thought I was insane and that he was snarling, but when I stuck my hand in the pen, they were amazed.” He’s as nice as they come!”
Cheech’s image was placed on Facebook to help him find a forever home, and boy, did it work! Thousands of inquiries were received, but in the end, a woman who had just lost a cat to cancer and was looking for a new friend for her other dog, Dusty, ultimately adopted the happy puppy.
Cheech’s journey from being alone on the streets to finding a loving home is a testament to the resilience of animals and the power of community in giving them a second chance at life.
