Soon, Vivian will be a beautiful puppy, but the start of this little dog’s life didn’t seem to be going so well until an Animal Protection and Rescue Law Officer from the Louisiana SPCA in New Orleans came to her rescue. The scared, confused and sick puppy was found hiding behind an air conditioning unit on Friday.
The animal protection officer wasted no time and took the puppy to the shelter to receive the urgent veterinary care she needed. The shelter evaluated his skin condition and diagnosed him with a severe case of demodectic mange. The condition is commonly caused by a parasite that burrows under dogs’ hair follicles and develops when a dog has an immature immune system, where the number of skin mites multiplies rapidly.
Please welcome Vivian to the Louisiana SPCA, where her treatments for demodectic mange have begun. The two-month-old puppy has also been placed on a specific diet to help her gain weight. She is currently being cared for by a foster family who is providing her with the medications she needs.
